Month: March 2019

Congratulations to our new President, Steve Action

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that the Board have unanimously decided to honour Stephen Acton with the title of President of Abridge Golf Club. This position is in recognition of all the hours and days of voluntary hard work he has performed for decades for the benefit of Abridge.

I probably know more than most how much work he has done. Having been a member of Abridge for 55 years and served with him on the Board over 17 years ago, I have seen first-hand his tireless efforts. Most of you are probably aware of his recent help with the sale and leaseback deal. That is just one of the many mammoth tasks he has undertaken, along with writing and re-writing the constitution and always being on hand to answer any legally related questions for the Club.

We hope this title brings Stephen gratification and kudos, and we also intend to provide him with a coveted parking space.

With the probable demise of the London League in its current format Abridge intends to host a day for our sister clubs and we will play for the Stephen Acton Trophy.

I am sure you will agree this is a much-deserved honour and please join with me and the Board in wishing him many years of happiness, joy and success as President of Abridge.

Testimonials.

I went to Jack in late 2018 playing off 15.
In the space of just 3 lessons, Jack has already helped me bring my handicap down to 10. He is attentive and sets you realistic goals that you are capable of reaching. His teaching methods are perfect for any golfer at any level and his greatest asset is his ability to simplify the  improvements you need to make in your swing. Highly recommend Jack

James Lewis

Jack is professional, reliable and timely. He will review and comment on film of my practice that I send to him out of hours so that I know whether I’m practising a new drill correctly. He is always encouraging and interested in my progress when I see him around the club.

Amongst many things I have seen improvement in are alignment, ball-striking and flight. I have also gained an improved understanding of the technical side of the game. We’ve only ever made changes that felt comfortable and Jack has simple and effective methods to help you remember and implement the change into your practice and game.

If you’re looking to improve your game and your technique and you’re looking to find effective practice routines I would recommend that you see Jack for some lessons.

Lady Captains Blog (stardate 11th March 2019)

The weather has mostly been very kind to the Abridge Ladies in February and we have enjoyed some inventive fun team games and competitions. With the arrival of March our true golfing season is about to start with some competitions already beginning.

On Sunday in extremely windy and rainy competitions our winning pair of Carol Gray and Paula Wendleken set off for their Daily Mail Foursomes competition away in West Essex Golf Club. (They qualified for this by being the winning pair of our summer Greensomes competition). So representing Abridge Golf club in the most unfavourable conditions that I would not let my dog (if I had one) out on our adventurers battled forth. The brave battle went on for 19 holes but unfortunately our worthy Abridge ladies succumbed to defeat after a tremendous effort.

Well done Carol and Paula for your supreme effort in horrendous conditions. Now you will have to champion your way in the summer Greensomes competition again this year.

Talking of summer competitions this is now the time to sign up to play the Midsummer cup and the Summer Greensomes. Please put your names down so that we can make the draw at the beginning of April.

Our winter knockout is coming to a close and our two finalists are playing their match on 31st March. Good luck to both Mandi Barker and Paula Wendleken.

Our first Bronze Match away at Frinton Golf Club is fast approaching. Karen Rosenbloom will captain the team. Good luck to all the players and caddies.

We have our  eagerly awaited, popular Ladies Quiz with fish and chips supper again this year on Tuesday 7th May at 7.00 for 7.30.

Please ask your friends and make up a table now. If you cant make up a table just bring a couple of friends and we will put you on a table. If you havn’t  got any friends ( then I’m a bit sorry for you) just bring yourself. We need to make the evening a bumper success. Every penny raised goes directly to the home  Beit Uri Home for disabled children and adults to help enable them to has a full and purposeful life.

Also just a reminder that we need your games in for Charity Day plus gifts for the tombola and sponsorship. Alison and her committee are working so hard to enable to make sure the day will be fantastic. I know that many ladies from other golf clubs look forward to our special day that is always run with sparkle and pizzazz.

Well enough rambling from me folks.

See you all soon

Love Deb xx
