Parents….. Are you currently a full member of our club? Did you know your child is entitled to a totally FREE junior membership if they are under the age of sixteen?
All of our junior members are entitled to play at any time during the week and after 1:00 p.m at the weekend. Unrestricted play at the weekends is available to junior members holding a handicap of 10 or below.
Did you also know that you can introduce your child to golf, or even hone the skills they already have with lessons from our dedicated junior P.G.A qualified professional and multi event winning coach Jack Winer on a Saturday morning for only £6!! Your child can also attend one of our summer camps where they can learn in the morning and then take their new found skills out onto the course in the afternoon for an exciting nine or eighteen hole competition. For those children with a competitive streak is the chance to fight for a place in our Youth Shield team to test their skills against other junior golfers either home or away in fixtures within the county of Essex.
For the next 20 junior members under sixteen years of age who join us at Abridge we have released a full membership for only £100* with £50 of the fee being placed onto a levy card to use for food and drinks at the club.
Regular dedicated junior competitions during the holidays and weekends over the summer will get them away from the games console and out of the house and will take place with the help of our junior organiser. Any junior member with a handicap of 24 or below will also be entitled to play in adult medal (if accompanied by at least one adult member) and knockout competitions. If you hold a handicap of 10 or below you may compete for the much coveted Club Championship. We also look forward to welcoming some of the successful juniors to take a place in our Leslie F Wood and Thornton Cup teams.

Testimonials.
I went to Jack in late 2018 playing off 15. In the space of just 3 lessons, Jack has already helped me bring my handicap down to 10. He is attentive and sets you realistic goals that you are capable of reaching. His teaching methods are perfect for any golfer at any level and his greatest asset is his ability to simplify the improvements you need to make in your swing. Highly recommend Jack
James Lewis
Jack is professional, reliable and timely. He will review and comment on film of my practice that I send to him out of hours so that I know whether I’m practising a new drill correctly. He is always encouraging and interested in my progress when I see him around the club.
Amongst many things I have seen improvement in are alignment, ball-striking and flight. I have also gained an improved understanding of the technical side of the game. We’ve only ever made changes that felt comfortable and Jack has simple and effective methods to help you remember and implement the change into your practice and game.
If you’re looking to improve your game and your technique and you’re looking to find effective practice routines I would recommend that you see Jack for some lessons.

“I highly recommend Jack and the golf lessons at Abridge Golf Course.”
My son is 8 years old and is generally pretty shy and doesn’t like trying new things so i wasn’t sure how he’d take to golf. I decided to introduce him to Jack a year ago as one of his friends had taken it up which made it a little easier to introduce him. So far he absolutely loves it, and can’t seem to get enough! He started off a little nervous and shy but thanks to Jack’s brilliant care, knowledge, attention to detail and fun sessions he’s come on in leaps and bounds. Jack really is brilliant with all the kids, and Gabriel cannot wait to get back to playing every Saturday! Once the half term course started he was first in line to sign up for the week and i can see how much he has improved along with his general attitude towards the game. I highly recommend Jack and the golf lessons at Abridge Golf Course.
“All the children felt like winners on the last days ceremony.”
My children attended Jack’s February half term golf camp. Jack always greets the children with a warm welcome and makes them feel comfortable and at ease whatever their ability/level of play is. Jack has an ability to look after many children and teaches them with a fun approach which they all thoroughly enjoy. All the children felt like winners on the last days ceremony.
“The fun factor you also put in place is excellent”
I just wanted to thank you personally for the half term golf course that you ran, to take your time away from your clients to do this for the children was amazing, your attention to detail and the skills that you have shown them was brilliant. Samuel has now been with you for a while now and I have seen his development improve 100% not just in his golf playing but also his attitude towards the the game of golf which only you have installed into him and for that I thank you. The fun factor you also put in place is excellent, I was not able to make the presentation on the last day but for Samuel to call me and say he was awarded a trophy made his week I feel the smile on his face through the telephone. It has encouraged him to work harder at his game and every moment that he has he is swinging his clubs either at the local driving range or in the garden. I would like to thank you and Abridge Golf and Country Club again for putting on your Saturday lessons and half term course and would highly recommend yourself to anyone who wishes to take up the sport.

Every Saturday morning the practice areas at Abridge are filled with the next generation of young golfers. They are taking part in the Junior Golf Group Lessons with PGA Professional Jack Winer.
The emphasis is on fun through all sports
Jack explains that the junior group lessons for the 4-12 age group are about having fun. He introduces the fundamental movement skills which develops their desire to become better at golf.
The children are encouraged to take part in various sports that include playing tennis, football and tag. Therefore this will include throwing, jumping, catching, skipping and balancing drills.
During the group lessons, Jack is looking to naturally build their muscles and make them stronger through all sports.
But most importantly, he wants the juniors to enjoy the group sessions. As a result, they will ask their parents to bring them back each week.
As you can see in these videos other sports do correlate with golf. The body responds to these different types of movement skills and show how they are very similar to golf.
In conclusion you will notice how the lower body sets the appropriate sequence of movement to give a similar finishing position.
Jack goes onto explain that he takes great satisfaction in watching junior golfers becoming mini athletes. It is not by luck that we have started to see the development of some great young golfers from these group lessons.
For instance, some of the juniors that started in group classes are now having individual 1:1 lessons and playing golf to a good standard.
Jack host hosts his group classes every Saturday morning from 10:00-11:00 and the cost is just £6 per person.
For all group lesson bookings and general enquiries please contact Jack at the pro shop 01708688333 or email him at jackwinergolf@gmail.com or fill out the contact form underneath.
It has been an exciting and eventful year for the Abridge Junior section. We are fortunate to have some very accomplished golfers in this age group.
Curtis Knipes crowned as Essex Amateur Champion at Upminster Golf Club
In June at Upminster Golf Club , Curtis Knipes successfully defended his title as Essex Amateur Champion. In his opening round he recorded 7 birdies and dropped just one shot to set a new amateur course record of 63.
Curtis also won the Abridge club championship for the second year in succession!
The Junior team had an excellent run in the Essex Youth Shield (Scratch) competition. The team reached the knockout stage by winning their group and went on to finish runners up.
A highlight was in the semi-finals where we played against Orsett. In what turned out to be the pivotal match, George Hallybone came back from 5 down with 6 to play, to chip in on the 18thfor a win taking Abridge through to the final against Colchester.
Sadly, the date of the final clashed with the date of the England Golf Union Men’s County Champion of Champions tournament at Woodhall Spa, which Curtis Knipes had qualified for as Essex men’s champion.
Abridge Juniors at Clacton
At Clacton, the boys were narrowly beaten by a very strong Colchester side. George was almost the hero again. At 2-2 in matches completed, George was 2 down with 2 to play against Charley Hatley of Clacton. George tied the match on the 18thtaking the match down the 1stbut unfortunately for us, Charley prevailed on the first play-off hole, so result was a 3-2 win to Colchester. Congratulations to them!
Abridge boys collect their Youth Shield runners up medals. Left to Right – George Hallybone, Freddie Orwell, Matthew O’Connor, Lewis Wright, Liam Palmer Anscombe and team captain Harvey Sullivan.
Curtis Knipes crowned champion or champions.
Meanwhile, while this match was taking place, Curtis Knipes was busy at Woodhall Spa.
I am delighted and very proud on behalf of Abridge to report that Curtis WON the England Golf Union Champion of Champions event where he birdied the fourth hole in a sudden-death play-off in this 36 hole competition.
Curtis Knipes crowned as England Golf Champion of Champions
I would like to thank all of the boys that represented the club this year and wish them luck in the future. I would like to thank Harvey Sullivan who served as Junior Captain this year.
We, at Abridge, are committed to providing a wonderful golf course with top class practice facilities for all Juniors to improve their game, no matter the level they look to achieve.
As a Club, we look to a successful future which begins with the younger members of Abridge.
If you wish to improve your driving length, we have a golf range that even the longest hitter would have trouble outdriving.
Should your short game need improving, there is a designated area that is for wedge play, whether it be 60 yards or 120 yards.
To improve your putting, we have a wonderful designated putting green of the finest quality.
Our Junior Captain looks forward to welcoming new members to our Junior Section
We enter our Juniors into both the Faldo Wedge and the Essex Youth Shield competitions to give them a chance to pit their skills against the best young golfers in Essex.
Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to give our Office a call and they will gladly make arrangements for any Junior, accompanied by a parent or guardian, to come and view our facilities.
