The weather has mostly been very kind to the Abridge Ladies in February and we have enjoyed some inventive fun team games and competitions. With the arrival of March our true golfing season is about to start with some competitions already beginning.
On Sunday in extremely windy and rainy competitions our winning pair of Carol Gray and Paula Wendleken set off for their Daily Mail Foursomes competition away in West Essex Golf Club. (They qualified for this by being the winning pair of our summer Greensomes competition). So representing Abridge Golf club in the most unfavourable conditions that I would not let my dog (if I had one) out on our adventurers battled forth. The brave battle went on for 19 holes but unfortunately our worthy Abridge ladies succumbed to defeat after a tremendous effort.
Well done Carol and Paula for your supreme effort in
horrendous conditions. Now you will have to champion your way in the summer
Greensomes competition again this year.
Talking of summer competitions this is now the time to sign up
to play the Midsummer cup and the Summer Greensomes. Please put your names down
so that we can make the draw at the beginning of April.
Our winter knockout is coming to a close and our two finalists
are playing their match on 31st March. Good luck to both Mandi
Barker and Paula Wendleken.
Our first Bronze Match away at Frinton Golf Club is fast approaching. Karen Rosenbloom will captain the team. Good luck to all the players and caddies.
We have our eagerly
awaited, popular Ladies Quiz with fish and chips supper again this year on
Tuesday 7th May at 7.00 for 7.30.
Please ask your friends and make up a table now. If you cant make up a table just bring a couple of friends and we will put you on a table. If you havn’t got any friends ( then I’m a bit sorry for you) just bring yourself. We need to make the evening a bumper success. Every penny raised goes directly to the home Beit Uri Home for disabled children and adults to help enable them to has a full and purposeful life.
Also just a reminder that we need your games in for Charity
Day plus gifts for the tombola and sponsorship. Alison and her committee are
working so hard to enable to make sure the day will be fantastic. I know that
many ladies from other golf clubs look forward to our special day that is
always run with sparkle and pizzazz.
Four Abridge Ladies and one Gent took a day off from golfing
to go hunting (and scrounging) for gifts for the tombola in aid of our
wonderful Charity Golf Day spectacular in aid of Prostate Cancer.
Although Our Charity golf day is not until June, we are
already working hard to make sure that once again our day is perfect. As we
have already raised over one million pounds in the past and £22,500 last year
we have a lot to live up to! So with this in mind The Abridge ladies and Brian
got up early and drove to the Spring Fair at the National Exhibition Centre in
Armed with wheelie trolleys and pictures of our previous tombola and cheque presentation along with information about the specialised microscopes we are raising funds for The Abridge golfing ladies paired up and started to circulate.
The generosity of the participants in the spring fair was
overwhelming. Stopping at each booth in turn we introduced ourselves, said we
came from Abridge Golf Club, showed our pictures, and asked if the stallholders
could help us. And unbelievably they did! Kitchenware, candles, toasters, trays,
pictures notebooks and so on were freely given with a smile and wishes of good
luck in our venture. Brian very kindly lugged our freebies back to the car as
each of us became loaded down.
It was very exhausting but most exhilarating! My thanks to our
wonderful ladies who came with to make the day so successful. Alison Levy our
charity chairman Pam Levine and Maureen Hart.
I was there too (Deborah Jacobs lady captain). Also a special thank you
to Brian Allsuch, for helping us, and keeping his wife Lesley’s legacy going.
Lesley started the charity day and we all miss her, but the day is still there
to honour her.
If you have any gifts that you would like to donate for our
tombola we will be very pleased to accept them. We also need sponsorship.
I am pleased to announce that Paula Wendleken is going to do a
3 mile open swim for us. Many thanks Paula and good luck!

Well another year is almost over. I have just got used to writing 2018 and now its nearly 2019! We have had a fun filled action packed year at Abridge Ladies Section.
December has been a very busy month for Ladies Golf at Abridge. We stated with the Menorah cup to celebrate Chanukah. In a very closely run foursomes golf competition, the winners were Carol Gray and Carole Piper on a countback from Deborah Jacobs and Melanie Schlosberg. We were all treated to festive donuts.
Our fun Putting
Princess competition was won by Mandi Barker and Deborah Jacobs and our monthly
stableford golf competition was also won by Mandi, who played exceptionally
well despite the winter conditions.
Even though it is
very wet out at the moment our new Buggy Paths on the front nine at Abridge
Golf Club have made sure that everyone has been able to play whatever the
This week we ended the year with a fun filled Christmas themed fun competition and a prize for the best dressed trolley. My thanks to all the ladies who took the trouble to participate, and to our professional Jack Winer for judging the competition.
Everyone eagerly awaited his judgement and the winning entry went to Alison Levy who won a festive bottle of bubbly. However with the help of the Christmas Fairy all of our golfing ladies were winners resulting in a small gift for all who participated. This was followed by lunch with crackers and chocolate father Christmases and of course mince pies!
We have enjoyed
some really great golf, some fun and great camaraderie. Abridge golfing ladies really
know how to enjoy themselves and love playing golf.
We have some very
exciting competitions planned for the New Year so we just have to hope that the
weather continues to be kind to us.
Happy Holidays and a great New Year.
Great golf course, in my opinion the best in the area.
I play a lot of golf courses throughout Essex & Hertfordshire with my golf society and hand on heart Abridge is one of my favourite courses, we come back every year.
Highly recommend a visit!
