Course update and news re the 2nd hole next week 13th Jan 2025

Good morning to you all and a vey Happy and healthy New Year to you all !

Hopefully you had a good Christmas aswell and are now looking forward to Spring? I know we are!

Last Sunday (5th Jan) and brought a lot of flooding as it thawed

The weather has been tough the last couple of weeks and its frustrating for us all!  The protection of the Course surfaces is paramount when we make our decisions of what is open or 'in play' . We are adhering to the agreed Winter Policy and despite having surface frosts on Greens the ground underneath has been still quite soft. The next few days this may change as temperatures are set to stay near zero degrees C or below and main Greens may be available if my team consider it safe to do so. No Golfer or any Greenstaff enjoy this time of year with regards to the Weather and surface conditions but what I can assure you is that we make the decisions necessary that are right for the Course.

This morning(Fri 10th Jan ) -3 degrees Celsius at 8.30am

The Poplar Tree height reduction work will be continued next week, (13th Jan 2025), as per our Ecology Plan.. For Health and Safety reasons the 2nd hole will be closed and the practice hole to the left of the 8th green will be used as a replacement Par 3. After playing the 1st hole please walk along the path straight to the 3rd tee taking care at all times. Once you have played the 8th green then walk down to the mat to play the practice hole and then onto the 9th hole. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The Poplars at the 2nd hole will all be reduced to allow light and air to the hole as per the Ecology report

A few fairways have been hit with Leather jacket damage, (11th, 12th and 13th), nothing to worry about as after a good overseed and feed it will all repair, but cannot do anything about it presently , need to wait for some warmer drier weather.

I have had several meetings with our Architect  Will Swan who is carrying out our commissioned Bunker report. He hopes to complete this report very soon and I hope to have this available for you all in the near future.

I thank again all those supportive members of our fantastic Development fund. The pricing of this years proposed projects are nearly complete and again I hope to have this information to you very soon

The Greenstaff are working hard over this period with continuing Tree work and Scrub clearing. I am also planning and preparing our work schedules for the coming year and further improvements to your Golf Course.

Exciting times ahead

Finally a very warm welcome to all the new members that have joined us the last few weeks !

Enjoy your Course , Enjoy your Club ....................it's yours remember !

Regards

Geoff
