I hope you are all getting out to play on your Course now finally we have had some warmer weather?
As per my emails of the 11th and 17th April respectively all planned remedial works to recover from the awful Winter and dry cold early Spring have been carried out with great improvements to the surfaces . I hope you will agree the last 2 weeks especially with the higher day and nightime temperatures has greatly assisted with the 'filling in' of disease scars and leatherjacket damage on the greens and other areas.
The greens have really thickened up and running smooth and true but I appreciate are still a little slow to what many of you want.
9th green, a great example of how the greens have recovered
They now need a good verti-cut , some top dressings and another top change to thin them out to further increase smoothness and speed.
Owing to the short week and ladies Open this week these slightly disruptive works will be carried out on Monday/ Tuesday next week (12th /13th May) . Further fertilising will also be given to the greens to keep things recovering .
The hole stablilsers have also now been taken out so more regular hole changing and resetting will take place from now on . Please note while greens are still quite soft holes will collapse /shrink sooner which is why we use the stabilisers in them through the Winter and early Spring. Some Courses have decided to use hole stabilisers all year round.
Don't worry we don't have smaller hole cups than other courses we all use the same type of hole cutting equipment and standard size hole cups!
Fairways, Surrounds and Approaches have all now been fertilised and this is starting to 'kick in' nicely too.
This week the Diamonds are back on the Fairways and Approaches !
The Diamonds are on their way back!
A few areas on fairways eg. 4th, 8th and 12th are still requiring further over seeding to recover from the awful leatherjacket infestation we had this Winter. This will happen over the next 2 weeks and they will then continue to 'knit in'
Tees have recovered well and are all now in play, however I am not happy with some of the Tee surfaces so further overseeding and top dressings will be done on some of Tees again over the next 2 weeks. The Tees will then get their Spring Summer feed.
Finally on the subject of surfaces all heights of cuts will go down to our normal 'Summer heights' over the next 2 weeks
Other news :-
The New large Putting Green will re-open the end of this week.
A few Irrigation repairs need to be done, so please watch out for my staff working on fairway sprinklers and take care not to hit them with your golf balls.
All the new trees are doing well and lots of blossom on the trees in the BIGGA Orchard.
The 11th Fairway Bunker will be drained and reinstated over the next 2 weeks, sorry for the delay but we have been waiting for a part for our digger which has just arrived having been on back order for 4 weeks
Hopefully the next issue will be the grass does not stop growing ! It's a nice issue to have after the last 4 months !
Welcome to all our new Members as they continuing to come to the Club and join us
So that's it for now , thank you again for everybody's understanding.
