Dear All I hope you are well and have been enjoying your golf course.
The Irrigation lake and our Irrigation system has served us very well, given that until last week we had only had 2 days of rain since early March. The rain we are having is topping the lake up a little so that's good!
Firstly many Congratulations to Lee Potter who became our Club champion 2025 last weekend, two great scores. Hopefully all those that entered enjoyed the condition of the Course
Lee Potter this years Club champion
Secondly congratulations to our new Captain Kirk Williams on a very succesful Drive-in and wish you well for the coming year!
Thirdly hard luck to our Thornton cup team who sadly narrowly lost to Romford golf club in the quarter finals . Better luck next year !
This time of year brings Summer renovations, but not too disruptive as according to our quarterly Agronomy reports we are in 'great shape'.
Still these works are essential to make sure our surfaces and whats going on underneath the surfaces stay this way!
Monday we will commence scarifying our Fairways, we have completed fairways 16,14 and some of 13 to check the machine is working. This is essential thatch removal work aswell as cutting off a lot of laying down grass.
Scarifying fairways next week
There will be signs on certain fairways where pick wipe and place will be used whilst the fairways recover.
Recovery should only be a few days and then the 'carpets' will be back!
Next week, Tuesday, the Greens will get their normal Spring/summer fortnightly verti-cut and light top dressing.
Monday the 18th Aug to Wed 20th Aug the greens will be spiked, deep aerated and then get their 3rd Top Change of the year to date. As you all now know this is only a few days disruption whilst the Greens recover. They will also receive a granular feed to see the Greens well fed going into late summer/ early Autumn
Greens will be deep aerated
Then top changed
Finally if time permits Approaches will get a verticut and possible dressing.
Bunker sand trials at the 10th fairway bunker and 15th bunker complex will commence from next week once a delivery of the China Clay sand arrives. It will take a few weeks for this sand to 'bed down' As already said previously I welcome constructive comments from you all on the new sand. Please email into the office your comments and the office will pass them onto me.
Taking the old sand out of the bunkers at 15th
September the 15th will see the start of the remodelling of the 13th hole, more details of this in the next few weeks.
We will also at some point, when conditions are right, will commence with further drainage on areas to improve our winter playability
So, lots going on this second half of the Summer .
Let's hope the warm sunny weather returns next week !
Enjoy your Course , Enjoy your club...............It's yours remember !
Regards
Geoff
